NearGroup: The Best Bot you have Never Heard Of

Every once in awhile, I come across a product that gives me that wow, aha moment. When I first played with NearGroup, a bolt of lightning hit me… Not for what it was, but for what it could become. As a result, I couldn’t resist, so I become an Advisor.

Looking at the Numbers

How popular is NearGroup? In October they processed over 1 Million messages, in November the number climbed to 6 Million messages and by December they were at 12 Million messages.

On their best day they, processed over 1.3 Million messages and at one point accounted for 10% of Dashbot.io’s total message count!

These numbers don’t go unnoticed and as a result they have been selected for Boost VC Accelerator Program in San Mateo.

What Does the Bot Do?

Most Dating Apps require a huge time investment, just to get a conversation. Men have to send hundreds of emails (or swipes) and women have to filter through them. On average, it takes 1,000 messages/swipes to get 1 date!

NearGroup is like Dating on Steroids. Unlike other dating apps and services, you can essentially get a virtual date in minutes. Sometimes it feel like a magic trick, you can get a date almost instantly.

It’s all about YOU

The Bot cuts away all of the fat. Essentially it quickly introduces you to a nearby stranger and lets nature take its course. The bot allows you to connect with the other person on a human level first; and you can judge if there is a connection before sharing any of your details. Instead of dating being about status or appearance it become about the connection.

What Makes it Crazy (Not for the Faint of heart)

Not everyone wants the same things! In fact there is a small minority in the bot that prefer to date virtually. This group of people will talk to stranger and sext strangers for the thrill of it.

Flings, Thrills and Sexting with Strangers

One of the other trends we are seeing is Sexting with Strangers. It is become such a popular use case, that the Bot now lets you select this is as a dating preference so it can match you with like minded people.

I have to admit, the first time a woman sent me a sext over the bot there was a voyeuristic thrill to it. It felt like being in high school all over again and going on that 3rd date ;) Overall, we are seeing a lot of people sext and some of it leads to real world meetings.
